The SAAQ Road Safety Education Program runs across four phases, about 12 months in total. Here's each stage, what happens in it, and the time it takes.

  1. STAGE 01

    Sign-up

    We open your Qazi file
    Day 1 Online · or at our office

    You pick your package, your preferred schedule, and your learning languages. We open your SAAQ file and give you access to the student portal to track your progress.

  2. STAGE 02

    Phase 1 · Theory

    The vehicle and the rules
    5 sessions · ~10 h Classroom or online

    The first five modules cover the vehicle, Quebec's highway safety code, and the principles of defensive driving. All of it before you touch the wheel.

  3. STAGE 03

    Learner's permit

    SAAQ knowledge test
    After 10 months on permit SAAQ service centre

    Once Phase 1 is done and you've held the learner's permit for at least 10 months, you take the SAAQ knowledge test. Passing it makes you eligible for the road test (minimum 12 months on the permit).

  4. STAGE 04

    Phase 2 · First hours

    Behind the wheel
    2 modules · ~5 h practical In-car · quiet streets

    Your first drives in the car, with a dual-control instructor. We start in calm areas, then gradually widen the scope. Goal: master the vehicle before dense traffic.

  5. STAGE 05

    Phase 3 · In traffic

    Cooperative driving
    3 modules · ~5 h practical Urban traffic · highway

    You drive in real traffic: Montreal streets, highways, varying conditions. We work on anticipation, sharing the road, and stress management.

  6. STAGE 06

    Phase 4 · Final prep

    Home stretch
    2 modules · ~5 h practical SAAQ exam routes

    We drive the actual SAAQ exam routes. We polish the last details, work on test-day nerves, and give you your program completion certificate.

  7. STAGE 07

    SAAQ road test

    The big day
    ~45 minutes SAAQ exam centre

    We drive you to the test, rent the vehicle, and give you a warm-up just before. No surprises: you already know the route.

  8. STAGE 08

    Probationary licence

    You've got your licence
    24 months · then permanent Anywhere in Quebec

    You hold a probationary Class 5 licence for 24 months. Zero tolerance for alcohol, and a few demerit points to keep track of before the permanent licence.
